The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill threatens the freedoms that have driven school improvement over the last 15 years.
Until now:
The Bill disempowers school leaders, shifting power to Whitehall, the Secretary of State and local authorities.
The Government has not identified what problems they are trying to solve by doing this and has provided no evidence such measures will raise standards in schools.
Instead of solving real problems, such as the urgent crises in SEND, recruitment and retention and school funding, the Bill risks stifling innovation, limiting parent choice, and worsening teacher shortages.
We welcome efforts to raise standards – but urge MPs and Peers to protect what is working.
Freedom, innovation, and accountability have been key to improving education – we must not turn back the clock. This ‘one size fits all’ approach threatens educational standards and outcomes.
Parents, teachers and pupils deserve a system that builds on success – not one that holds it back
Protect what works: fix the Bill, don’t break our schools.
