Write to your MP about changes to school place planning included in the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Teachers and parents understand what children actually need and what’s in their best interests. We need to protect schools’ autonomy and trust them to get on with the job.

Until now a good school has been able to expand in response to parental demand. But the Government is giving local authorities more power over the number of places at schools in their area.

The changes mean good schools could have their places cut because local authorities want to keep struggling schools open. Popular schools might not be able to expand, reducing the number of good school places available.

If this bill goes ahead in its current form, good schools across the country will suffer
